According to Chattssportnet.com , rumors are making their way through the NBA rumor mill that the Golden State Warriors are willing to trade Andre Iguodala strait up for Iman Shumpert due to Andre's age and Shumperts fit for the team as a defensive weapon. This story is fucking Bonkers and should not be taken seriously, but gives me a good segue into another off season suggested trade that is ridiculous, but the story has been out there and I've been looking for a way to address it. Draymond Green For ADBefore I delve into this, let me clarify one thing: I rock with Draymond Green TUFF, I believe he is the heart and soul of this team, and should not be traded for anyone. He will continue to grow in his role as a playmaker and will do even better with the addition of Kevin Durant. With all that being said, if there was any argument to go one for one on a trade with any other player in the NBA, it is Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans. AD has built himself up to be a top 10 NBA player, some could even argue top 5, and he is only 23 years old. While some could argue that Draymond is a better all around player, dropping 14, 9.5, and 7.4 last year, others say that was due to the tremendous talent of the team around him. Imagine the numbers AD could drop if his threat to kick it out to was Steph or Klay instead of Tyreke Evans. Davis also brings more scoring to the table, after having back to back years of dropping 24 a game. Draymond clearly has the edge on defense, finishing top 3 in the DOPY category every year, but with AD's length and young age there is room for growth on that front. Plus, he would be a more Natural 5 for the Death lineup with Andre.
All these attributes are nice, but even then I wouldn't take the trade, and it comes down to two simple reasons: Heart and Grit. Two things that cannot be taught, that Draymond possesses in droves, he never gives up on a play and shows up until the last minute of every fight. In fact, he dropped 37 in game 7 of last seasons finals. I have seen no evidence of this in Anthony Davis' game, and he has, in fact, looked soft at times. This trade was never truly going to happen anyways, but if the real offer got put on the table, I would hope Bob Meyers would turn it down with a resounding no. By the way, Basketball is back in 35 days. -CC
