"Action" Jackson here, with coverage on very big news out of Denver: Von Miller has signed a 6 year, $114.5 million extension with the Broncos after previous negotiations on his contract went sour. The deadline to sign a franchise tender or reach a long term extension with your team was yesterday at 4 pm EST, so this 11th hour signing is big news for other franchise tagged players. The argument that Miller and Denver had was over the guaranteed portion of the money; Miller wanted to be the highest paid defensive player in the league, and he finally got his wish. $70 million of his contract is fully guaranteed, making the former Texas A&M Aggie a very happy man.
The #2 Pick in the historically talented 2011 Draft will now play in the 2016 season after he claimed he would protest playing on a franchise tender with almost no guarantees in salary. As stated before, I felt that he was worth every penny to a team that lacks a starting Quarterback, and was a big reason why they won the Super Bowl. Now that Miller has his money, Denver's defense suddenly becomes a problem again. Although they lost some crucial members of their Super Bowl winning roster, the defense remains largely intact, and Miller makes a big difference whenever he steps foot on the field. His presence alone draws attention from coaches and double teams from the opposing lineman, helping the rest of his defense bring pressure and make plays. as evidenced in the AFC Championship against New England. He also is a one-man wrecking crew, as seen in the Super Bowl, when he single-handedly ended the season of the NFL's best team, winning Super Bowl MVP honors for his efforts. Miller is one of the best defensive players of his generation, and he's finally getting paid like it. As a former defensive player, I love watching him play and seeing him succeed. Eat, young man, and continue to prosper. --JAJ
