You ask any bay area native who their favorite NFL team is and you will most likely here the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers. Two franchised riddled with a deep history and some of the most loyal fans across the country. Being that my father was born and raised in the great city of San Francisco, I was born with scarlet and gold coursing through my veins. The last time a Super Bowl trophy was won in San Francisco was in 1994, a year before I was born. It was such a good time to be born into the 49er family. But through my 20 years on this earth I have had many ups and downs with this team. It pains me that I have never seen my team hoist a Lombardi trophy, especially after being so close in recent years. But i have learned that in regards to sports, and most facets of life, the past is the past and the only thing we can do is look to improve our future. Now trust me when I say this ladies and gents, Ive been looking forward and I’m not too confident in what i see in the distance. Last year we possibly had the worst offseason in NFL history. Never in my life have I seen a franchise go through such discombobulation. Along with losing our head coach, Jim Harbaugh, we also lost our star pro bowl linebacker. I would say his name but it pains me too much to even type it out and I’m sure you already know who I’m talking about. I know that this already sounds bad right? Trust me it gets worse! Our promising young linebacker Chris Boreland decides to retire early for health reasons… Really dude, you’ve played your whole life and now your worried about your health. C’mon son!! Guess he couldn’t handle the big lights. Then Frank Gore, our pro-bowl running back decides to take his talents to Indianapolis. Indianapolis!!!!! This pained me the most because this was the first running back i actually payed attention to when i first started watching football. The man had 8 1000 rushing yard seasons out of 10. A true work horse who fought for every yard….. GONE. But wait, theres more.. (Billy Mays voice) Along with losing our starting guard Iupati we also lost Michael Crabtree who signed to the Oakland Raiders and had a fairly decent season. And the finishing touch was seeing our veteran defensive-end, Justin Smith, retire. Sigh. These loses left us crippled for the next season as we went on to finish with a 5-11 record. Tampa Bay, Detroit, and the Oakland Raiders, just to name a few, all had better seasons. As a man who has fought and argued for my team against many Raiders fans, it pains me to say that I believe that the Oakland Raiders are currently a better team. It seems the 49ers have completely lost our defense and the Raiders have done the polar opposite. With our new “star” head coach, Chip Kelly, I hope that we can figure something out fast and get back to the kind of football that the Faithful 49 and I are used to watching. Its time for us to rebuild and bring some of that tenacity we left at Candlestick to Santa Clara. Only time will tell if we can figure out our missing pieces to the puzzle.

What's a defending Super Bowl Champion team without a starting quarterback? That would be the 2016 Denver Broncos. What happens when that same team loses their franchise's best defensive player in recent memory? That is something the Broncos are hoping to figure out before the league franchise tag deadline on July 15th, less than two weeks from the date of this writing.
For those that don't know, the franchise tag is simple: any NFL player about to become a free agent, like Von Miller, can be designated the "franchise player" for their team and can be signed to basically a one-year contract. The money they make on that one year contract is based on the average salary of their position. None of it is fully guaranteed, which is important in a sport where serious injuries can happen fast. For Miller, the average salary for his position (Outside Linebacker) would be much, much less than what he desires, and in my opinion, what he has earned. In Von Miller's case, he has two options: 1) sign the franchise tender he received from Denver, or, as he has stated to the media, 2) sit out the 2016 season until Denver agrees to make him the highest paid defensive player in the history of the NFL, regardless of position. Miller wants more guaranteed money for his contract, since he faces double teams almost every play and would likely be injured within the next 1-2 years, making it hard to earn incentive-based money. His argument is strong; Denver needs all the help they can get this season. Peyton Manning, already looking too old to play at a high level, finally retired. Brock Osweiler, the next QB on the depth chart, now plays for the Houston Texans. Basically, Denver needs all the help they can get to remain effective. Miller makes his money rushing the passer and causing chaos for offenses. Denver's defense, which basically won them Super Bowl 50, is nowhere near as effective without number 58 drawing attention and making life hard for the other team. Wait, did I forget to mention? Von Miller was Super Bowl 50's MVP. Not Cam Newton, who won NFL MVP. Not Peyton Manning, who was lucky to even be in the game. Miller won the MVP award by single-handedly beating the best team in the NFL. Denver does not win Super Bowl 50 without him. My opinion? Pay the man his money. He's obviously worth it. The contract deadline is July 15th. As of this writing, Von Miller and Denver have yet to agree on a guaranteed amount of money. They need to come to an agreement soon, or Denver's season will be tough with Miller watching from the sidelines. --JAJ Quick hitter pod about free agency, back with that real on Tuesday. Enjoy!
With July 4th coming around on Monday I'm here to power rank the top 10 best things about July 4th. 10: Hot dogs: If you go to a BBQ and there isn't 40 plus hot dogs going to or being made your doing the 4th wrong. 364 other days of the year I don't even eat them but if you don't have at-least one dawg on the 4th, you woulda been anti revolution in 1776 guaranteed. 9: Macaroni Salad: This goes hand in hand with the #8 on the power rankings, extremely underrated side dish that does not get enough love at the BBQ. If made well, it can change the tide on a whole BBQ. The reason it gets such a bad wrap is 90% of the the time its a trash version of it, but that other 10% is a true game changer. 8: Potato Salad: Shitting on all other sides at a BBQ, a true bomb Potato salad is a staple to a successful BBQ. Everyone got the one aunt or uncle with that fire ass recipe and if they don't make it you don't even want it. Keep that mustard potato salad shit out my face. 7: Burger: Burgers, FAR superior to Hot Dog's in every single possible way come in at 7, are a necessity and a true test if the chef is really throwing it down or not. 6: Firecrackers: These would be higher up but people play around with these to much and scare the shit out my dog. Normally, hella fun, but of course most people don't know how to act. 5: Presidential Patriotic Pics: I don't know why but damnit I love these pics, I just get a sense of patriotism washing through my veins. 4: St Louis Style Ribs: The ultimate main course at a 4th BBQ, if the cookout got these you know its finna be fire. The worst thing in the world is showing up to a BBQ after hearing there are ribs there and you come to find out they got that Carolina dry rub bullshit. I will cut all ties if someone promises me ribs and I get there to see Carolina style. 3: The Declaration of Independence: Because screw Britain and their racist ass Brexit. 2: No Work: This would have been MUCH farther down in prior years, but after moving to the 9-5 Monday through Friday life, July 4th is the only summer holiday that means no work and i'll be DAMNED if i don't enjoy not going in. 1: Fireworks: this is a true no duh, but the firework shows around the bay are unmatched on July 4. The rest of the year they're usually cool, but on the 4th the bay steps it's shit the fuck up. This is what makes it a top 3 holiday of the year
